Getting your mammogram with ARA Diagnostic Imaging
ARA Diagnostic Imaging is an Austin-grown, community-oriented imaging group that has been a leader in medical services in Central Texas since 1954. ARA knows that you want the top medical services for yourself and your family. That’s why we listen to our patients and bring you convenience, expertise and advanced technology. 3-D mammography, a new technology that offers a more detailed way to view the breast, is now available at 12 ARA locations, making this revolutionary exam available to all Central Texans.
WHEN SHOULD WOMEN GET THEIR FIRST MAMMOGRAM?
ARA is committed to saving women’s lives, which is why we recommend that women have mammograms starting at 40 and yearly thereafter.
The evidence is clear. This saves the most lives. Starting at age 40, not age 45, the incidence of breast cancer rises sharply, doubled when compared to women ages 35 to 39, and continues to increase with each decade. Large studies show that getting regular mammograms decreases breast-cancer deaths by about one-third. Additionally, more lives are saved in women who get a screening mammogram every year, as opposed to those who only get a mammogram every two years. Annual mammograms are critical in the early detection of breast cancer, when there is the best chance for cure.
WHY SHOULD WOMEN ASK FOR A 3-D MAMMOGRAM?
3-D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) is the latest technology in screening mammograms. 3-D mammography gives the radiologist the ability to see inside the breast layer by layer, viewing multiple images taken during the exam.
In contrast, a conventional mammogram shows all of the breast in a single image. Studies have shown an up to 41 percent increase in the number of invasive breast cancers detected with 3-D technology. Because of the ability to view the breast in depth, radiologists are better able to discern between benign and cancerous abnormalities, resulting in the reduction of callbacks.
WHY SHOULD WOMEN VISIT AN ARA CLINIC FOR A MAMMOGRAM?
ARA is an Austin-based success story and we are committed to serving the health-care needs of our community. That’s why you will find us in your neighborhood. We have 17 locations throughout Central Texas and also offer extended hours for patient flexibility. Our radiologists are some of the most highly trained physicians in the nation and the patient care satisfaction rate in our clinics exceeds 94 percent.
DOES INSURANCE COVER MAMMOGRAM PROCEDURES?
Most insurance companies cover screening mammograms for women 40 and older with no out-of-pocket costs. Many insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid, also cover the new 3-D mammogram. Don’t wait. Visit ausrad.com or call 512.453.6100 now to request a screening-mammogram appointment.
