Sarah Scott, Texas “hempress” and CBD consultant, founded Hemp Doctors USA in 2014, one of the first hemp-derived CBD companies selling American-grown products in Texas. She has been a medical-exercise, post-rehab and fitness coach for more than 30 years, including founding one of the first personal-training, sports- conditioning, medical-exercise corporations in America and one of the most successful groups of personal-training facilities in Austin. Her keen understanding of how CBD works, coupled with her knowledge of sports medicine and human physiology, underscores her expert know-how for CBD’s human-health applications.

Hardly a day goes by without most people hearing about the uses of CBD products for our overall well-being: enhanced sleep, improved bone density, minimized anxieties and most importantly, the reduction of chronic aches and pains, all of which improve our golf swings and tennis serves and allow us to keep pace with life. A study from the European Journal of Pain using an animal model found that CBD applied on the skin was shown to lower chronic pain and inflammation from arthritis.

What is CBD oil?

It’s derived from the cannabis plant, but it doesn’t cause the euphoric high often associated with the plant. Hemp-derived CBD oil, which is legal in Texas, is extracted from the hemp plant and is akin to other legal, readily available hemp products, like hemp milk. Most notably, it is said to have anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety and antiseizure properties, making it a viable product for many medical and wellness issues. Regarding dosage, start low and increase slowly until you identify the level that provides relief for you or your pet.

Who and what is CBD oil good for?

CBD is not only good for humans; it is also good for dogs and cats who also want to continue chasing the tennis ball or jumping on the bed. Questions to ask when buying CBD products include:

Does the salesperson know where and how the product was grown, processed and its true ingredients? Hemp Doctors USA deals directly with the farmers, bringing customers farm-to-table products.

Does the salesperson understand how CBD works in the human body? Hemp Doctors USA Founder Sarah Scott has been in the health, fitness, post-rehab and medical-exercise business for decades and has a great understanding of how CBD products affect the body.

Does the salesperson have direct experience working with people and pets taking CBD? CBD responses vary from person to person, age to age and animal to animal. Hemp Doctors USA has been in the CBD business for almost five years. The CBD salesperson should have a keen understanding of how CBD works and knowledge of sports medicine, human physiology and CBD’s human and pet applications.

Does CBD get you high?

Hemp-derived CBD gets people and their pets healthy, not high. Hemp Doctors USA is passionate about offering a variety of healthy products for a wide spectrum of needs. CBD is one of more than 120 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD is found in hemp and marijuana. CBD from hemp is non-psychoactive. The component responsible for giving users a high is tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is prevalent in marijuana, not hemp. Hemp-derived products containing less than .3 percent THC are legal in all 50 states. Hemp-derived products can be used as oral tinctures for fast absorption, in capsule form for easy dosage and topically.

Does the quality matter?

It is important to know your products were not grown in soils that have lead, arsenic, mercury and other environmental toxins. When evaluating a full-spectrum hemp-derived product, also make sure it is processed in an FDA-registered facility and utilizes third-party-verified good manufacturing practices. Look for American-grown, full-spectrum hemp-derived products that encompass the whole plant and are capable of providing the “entourage effect,” which denotes the synergy between cannabis compounds that magnifies the therapeutic benefits. These compounds work together to produce the very important entourage effect. CBD-labeled products are not always full spectrum and whole-plant-based. For example, CBD isolate products are not full spectrum and do not provide whole-plant medicine. Full-spectrum, entourage cannabis extracts are more effective for your wellness.

What are the benefits?

CBD oil is beneficial for any number of ailments, including lessening everyday aches and pains, easing anxiety and depression, and reducing the severity of symptoms associated with osteopenia, osteoporosis, diabetes, epilepsy, insomnia, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. From acting as an anti-convulsant and anti-inflammatory agent to easing neuropathic pain and aiding in reducing symptoms of Crohn’s disease, CBD oil offers benefits that spread far and wide. CBD is one of the most important healing substances in the hemp plant.

Are CBD and sports a natural fit?

CBD has quickly joined sports, diet and fitness as part of a lifestyle for wellness. CBD is reported to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-anxiety properties, making it a viable product for sports training and overall wellness. CBD products are rapidly moving beyond the realm of alternative remedies and into mainstream uses among the general population and professional athletes. A recent Golf Digest article stated at least 15 to 20 professional golfers are taking CBD on a regular basis to help their overall performance by keeping their ailments at bay. Since CBD is derived from a plant, the consensus is that it is potentially better for the body than taking chemically designed pills or rubbing chemically designed lotions on the body.

Does CBD oil really work for pets?

Yes, premium hemp extracts have been recognized for benefits on human and animal health for years. Our bodies, as well as our pets’ bodies’ endocannabinoid systems are made of cannabinoid receptors ready to receive naturally occurring cannabinoids to maintain a stable and balanced internal environment. The most compelling reason to start Hemp Doctors USA was for my clients and my dog, Billy. Billy was diagnosed with epilepsy as a puppy and I wanted to provide him a healthy alternative to traditional medicines. Bringing American-grown, naturally healthy CBD products to people and their pets has been a journey of the heart and soul for me. My daily mission is to create a healthier world for people, pets and the planet.

Is what’s good for the inside good for the outside?

Did you know cannabinoid receptors are located throughout the skin? CBD has the capability to interact with those receptors to encourage healing. Because cellular health is the backbone of fitness, it seems fitness and beauty with CBD are much more than skin-deep. Studies have shown potential benefits of cannabinoids in the treatment of psoriasis, windburn, sunburn, acne, rosacea and eczema. As a powerful antioxidant, CBD is thought to protect the skin from free radicals like UV rays. Free radicals lead to wrinkles and fine lines, but antioxidants in CBD are thought to protect the skin from damage and help fight the effects of aging. It also seems there is no downside in sight with Mother Nature at the heart of it all. Isn’t it everyone’s goal to keep doing what they love doing? CBD and Hemp Doctors USA may be able to help you do just that!
